love at first shutter snap.

May 7th, 2009 at 7:38 pm. Posted in Just Rachel.

Today has proved that I have a lot to learn as far as this whole photography thing is concerned.  I can’t figure out how to shoot in aperture priority and it’s driving me nuts.  I suppose it would help if i sat down and you know, read the owners manual.  I just didn’t have time today and I was itching to play with my new toy.  I took a drive down to the beach and starting taking pictures.  It had just finished raining, it was crazy humid and it was just me and a couple of boogie boarders.  Good times.

So here are my first shots with my Rebel.  They aren’t anything to be proud of, but I’ll learn.  :)

Your photos are beautiful!

I still have no idea how to use my rebel, and I’ve had it for nearly a year. I just use the auto settings! We can learn together. :)

YAY for the new camera!

Aperture priority basically means that you set the aperture and the camera sets the shutter speed. So, if there’s little light, set the aperture to the widest it’ll go (the smallest number.) … We’ll do geeky camera stuff in Vegas if you want. It’ll be fun, heh.

Oh wow, these are great pictures! What are you talking about?! I love them. :]

Did you enhance the photos a little bit, or is this how the Rebel takes them?

Regardless, it looks great! Have fun with your new toy. :]

Aperture priority is the size of the whole, the bigger it is (the smaller the f stop number) the more light you let in. In A mode the shutter speed will be adjusted for you to expose a photo properly. So if you open the aperture wide the shutter speed will be super fast and vice versa. In manual you can adjust shutter speed and aperture! :) Good pics and btw Nikon rules Canon drools!!! neener

I love these pics! I’ve been thinking about getting a new camera so I may be asking for your advice soon. :) Also, thanks for the comment you left on my last post. It’s nice to know there’s someone out there in the same situation with their mom. I really appreciate it and I’ll probably be emailing you soon. :)

Aw, I enjoyed these pics Rachel! Good for you in taking the plunge and purchasing a nice camera. I always say I’m going to do the same, but still haven’t. Someday… for now it’s just me and my point and shoot camera.

The Rebel is such a great camera. I had one for about two years, and just recently upgraded to a 40D…but I still always have a soft spot in my heart for my old Rebel.

Here’s an outdated post detailing the photo gear I used with my Rebel (again, out of date, as I got a fancy new lens when I got my 40D) but it might be interesting to you:
http://mattstratton.com/2009/01/28/photo-gear-listing/

And yeah, Aperture Priority mode is the place to live. Almost always. I don’t know if you’re a big reader or not, but a couple great books to get going are:

“Understanding Exposure” by Bryan Peterson

“The Digital Photography Book” (volumes 1 and 2) by Scott Kelby

Good luck! If you ever have any dSLR questions, especially Canon-related, please feel free to ask (he says unsolicited). I can become a real photo geek if not unchecked, so I apologize in advance :)
