Getting to know me a little better: Part One.

September 10th, 2009 at 1:20 pm. Posted in Just Rachel.

Here’s the first part of the questions everyone asked me!  It was such a blast seeing what everyone was curious about and coming up with my answers!  I broke it up becuase there was like 25 questions and I didn’t want to kill you guys, you’re welcome.

I’m still hanging in there, in a little bit of a funk… especially this weekend because Matt is away playing military games til Monday.  I’m fine, just… lacking inspiration.  I’ll get there though.  These questions were a perfect distraction.

Also?  GO CHECK OUT THESE BLOGS.  Some of them are new to me, some aren’t… but they are all FANTASTIC.  Really.  I have amazing readers.

If you still want to ask me something, feel free, I’ll include it in a later post!  Enjoy getting to know me a little better!

Amanda asked: “Of all the places you’ve traveled to this summer, what was your favorite? or, what has been your favorite US place you’ve visited thus far in your life?

Favorite place this Summer is hands down, Las Vegas. I know, I know… SO PREDICTABLE, but it changed me. It also didn’t hurt that we spent a morning laying out at a pool in the sunshine drinking Malibu Bay Breezes.

A close second is most definitely Minnesota. I know I whined a lot about it being cold and all that jazz, but it really is such an awesome place. So much to see and do and I loved getting to sort of see the other half of Doni’s world.

Favorite place i’ve visited in my life though?  That’s a hard one.  Hm.  I love California, i’ve been there six times and every time i’m there, it feels so good to be back.  The scenery, the beaches, it’s like all of the best parts of New Jersey amped up a million levels. It’s my favorite place in the world to runaway to.

San asked: “I would like to know when and why you started blogging.”

2003. I started on Blurty. Why? I don’t really know! No one back then had a blog, it was just easier to type then to write it all out, so I think that was my initial draw to blogging. I have always had a hand written journal, so it wasn’t new to me. I think what kept me blogging, even in the early days was the community of people. The advice, encouragement and support you get from complete and total strangers and getting to do that for someone in return.

(Also, part of San’s question mentioned something about not commenting because the comments just get lost in the shuffle, which ISNT TRUE!  It’s no secret that this blog changed my life and i’ve met some amazing people via this place here.  EVERY comment matters, gets read (sometimes responded to… i’m trying to get better about that!) and so yeah.  Comment away, I want to meet you!)

Renee asked: “If you could change your name to ANYTHING, what would it be? No wait, that’s a shitty question. My favorite question to ask people is what food will be waiting for you in heaven? I’ll be seeing a plate of friend chicken, warm rice krispy treats, and a keg of Guinness at the pearly gates. You?

When I was born, my parents named me Robin. It stayed that way for like, a day and a half until they came in with the papers for my birth certificate and my mom changed it. Honestly, I wouldn’t change my name… I love it. I thank God every day that they didn’t go with Robin. I don’t look like a Robin. Do I?

See Renee, your question didn’t suck. I had a good story for that one!

Oh dear. When I get to heaven I want… Warm rice krispy treats too. Right out of the pot. My mom’s chicken soup and cheesecake. A chicken quesadilla, just chicken and cheese… with lettuce. A wedge of brie and some crusty bread. A bottle of Pinot Grigio and a gallon of Malibu Bay Breezes.

Apparently, dying makes you hungry.

Lani asked: “What are your top 3 pet peeves??

People clipping their nails anywhere in my vicinity. OMG, it irritates me to no end. Seriously. It’s like nails on chalkboard.

Someone leaving like, half a sheet of toilet paper on the roll instead of switching it to a new one. What am I supposed to do with THAT!?

Bad tippers. I HATE going out with people that calculate tips to the penny. I am a frequent 30% and up tipper. If I have an extra $20? I throw it in for the waitress… So what if it’s a 50% tip? Maybe it’s going to make her night. Maybe she can buy that new handbag she’s been coveting or maybe she can take her kids to the movies now. Karma, bitches. Karma. I’ve waited tables. I’ve been there. Tip well.

Gemini asked: “My question… when did you become so fabulous? I mean really. You have always been my blog crush and then the bagels were icing on the cake, so… how long did it take you to become Blog Famous?”

First off, Miss Gemini, YOU are pretty fabulous yourself. You’re too sweet, really. I’m not going to say I’m fabulous, but in the past year and a half or so… I have really come into my own. I’ve branched out. I’ve learned to appreciate my imperfections and flaunt my assets. (Wait. That sounded bad. Ugh. No one ever said I was eloquent.). I’ve become more confident and I think you have too! It’s easy to be seen as fabulous when you are confident in yourself. People take notice of that sort of thing. That’s not to say that I am not without flaws. Holy moses, I have my flaws. The trick though? Don’t let other people know. :)

Blog Famous? I’m famous? What? Since when? It’s so weird when people say that to me. There are still bloggers I don’t comment on because I hold them at this “Celebrity Status”, so when people think that of me? I’m seriously taken back. If it wasn’t for 20SB, I wouldn’t be where I am now. No one would be reading this sorry little blog, I wouldn’t have the friends that I have now, my life would be nowhere near as epic as it currently is.

Courtney asked: “What was your favorite part of the mn state fair? did you see the creepy heads of butter?

I did not see the creepy butter heads! Blame Doni! We got there sort of late and by the time we made it over that way, I think everything was closed. BOO! My favorite part was the International Bazaar. I’m also sort of obsessed with the Leinenkugel chairs at the lodge. Oh! And there was this 15 year old boy tap dancing in the talent show when we were over there. It was the most hilarious thing I have ever seen and one of the best parts of the fair. This kid personified jazz hands, I’m not kidding. Oh, and cheese curds. I’m smitten over those things.

You’re so sweet! It was fun learning more about you. Definitely like Rachel more than Robin!

I’m with you…once you’ve waited tables, it’s hard NOT to tip well. Especially after you’ve had some great tips and haven’t ruled out picking up a few shifts for some fast cash…

I’ll take your comment to heart and will, from now on, comment more often :)

Thanks for answering those random questions – it’s nice to learn new things about you.
BTW, I also – like some other readers – live in California *hint, hint*

Well, I didnt ask any questions, but I loved reading the answers! I, too, love California. Although I do not regret moving back from San Diego because of where I am in life now, I do miss that sunny weather :)

Aww, so fun! I really liked Renee’s question about food in heaven and I like your answer to it, too. That sounds amazing right about now.

AMEN about being a good tipper. I got into a HUGE blowout fight with my roommate/best friend about it because she wasn’t going to leave a tip — I don’t look at her the same way anymore. I figure, that waitress likely needs the money more than I do so I’m always pretty generous.

omg i love that your name was ROBIN at birth! That’s such a fun and random fact!! You definitely look like a Rachel to me tho! You know what? Robin makes me think of that pop singer from back in the day that only had like 1 hit? Robyn! Remember? “do you really want me, am i really special?” hahahaha!!
i loved this post!

I’m so glad you loved Minnesota so much! Minnesota loved you too :) And the Bazaar is ALWAYS my fave part of the fair, too.

Though that tap-dancing kid was pretty AWESOME. I think Steve had a crush on him.

I can’t stand bad tippers either. (I waitressed once.) Can you believe there are people who still think they’re going above and beyond if they tip 10%?! I’ve been with people who tip 10%-15% even if the waitress was AMAZING. Husband and I always tip at LEAST 20%-25% (even if the waitress sucked, because hey, we all have our bad days)!

I kind of wish you had seen the butter heads because I would have loved to see a photo of that!

You definitely do NOT look like a Robin!

I’ve never heard of Blurty. I used to blog at LiveJournal for years… I’m done with that crap now, haha.

God I love California. I’ve only been the one time but i would make out with it every day for the rest of my life.

your name change story is so funny! my cousin tina was originally named Judith Anne, but her dad HATED that name, so one day when he went in to town to get parts (he’s a sugar beet farmer) he swung by the courthouse and changed her name to Christina Marie. And he and his wife are still married. Go fig.

i am ALSO an excellent tipper — went out with one of the bffs and her man and 2/3 of her children the other night and her man didn’t even want to tip 15% because the waitress “wasn’t that good.” Uh, dude, she brought you everything you needed, our food was hot when it got here, she got us refills, and we have a 4 year old and a 5 year old in our party. i’m preeeeetty sure she deserves at LEAST 20%. shut your face.

as far as your blog fame. i hope to be as blogfamous as you someday. and i love this sorry little blog. and it ain’t all that sorry. ;)

My parents also changed last-minute my name. Okay, okay, just my second name. Instead of Andrea Beatriz, I ended up Andrea Renée. Honestly, I like Renée better.
