well that was exhausting.

January 27th, 2010 at 8:13 am. Posted in Daily Me., Featured Blogger, Just Rachel, wise words.

I took the post down.   Feeding into internet drama is not my thing and I realize that in posting what I did, I was giving her what she wanted.  I don’t have to defend my actions to ANYONE, especially some stranger on the internet.   There’s a reason why I shy away from becoming friends with other AF wives, and I think now… it’s painfully obvious why.  Was I right bringing it public on my personal blog?  Probably not, but a wedding blog is certainly no place for a comment war.  Anyway, it’s done and over with now.  Thank you all for your support, it means the world.

MOVING ON!

Take five and go look at what my twin did.  She’s ridiculous and I adore her.  Submit a picture, let’s have some fun!

Internet was down all night last night for Matt, I didn’t get an email ’til almost 5am my time.  I lost a lot of sleep last night.  I know it’s probably needless worry and that he’s relatively okay where he’s stationed, but not hearing from him all day gets me seriously nervous.  I was awake until a little after 4a, so i’m running on minimal sleep.  Thank God today is my Friday.

With all of the AWESOME that has surrounded Love Harder, I wanted to let you all know that I’m (along with all of the other amazing Philly / NJ bloggers) running in the MMRF Race for Research.  It’s this October in Philadelphia, but they have them in San Fran, Boston, Chicago, the Twin Cities… probably somewhere close to you.  We all plan to run under the team of Love Harder and raise funds again in the name of H.A.D.  I think it would be AMAZING if we could get 20sb-ers represented in every city that there is a race in.  It’s a 5k, so it’s like 3ish miles.  If you don’t think you can run a 5k, go here.  Couch to 5k changed my life.

Matt so kindly noted that we are almost 1/3 of the way through this deployment when we had our Skype date on Monday night.  I guess in another ten ish days we will be 1/3 through this mess.  I have no idea how it’s going to “fly by” like so many people say, but here’s hoping.

Since he was so kind to tell me that we were almost 1/3 of the way through deployment, I sat up all night looking for THE PERFECT homecoming dress (I feel like i’m in High School saying “homecoming”).  I’ve decided that although insanely expensive and a completely ridiculous purchase, i’ll probably buy my dress from Anthropologie.  They are all just so classic and detailed and GORGEOUS.   Here’s a few of the ones that i’ve had my eye on…

1

Gorgeous, right?  That perfect yellow ribbon, the length, the fact that its a tank top sort of cut so I don’t have to worry about my dress falling down mid holy-crap-he’s-right-there!!! mad dash to my honey.  But wait, check this out.

2

LOOK AT THAT BACK! How stupid gorgeous is that cut out and that ruffle?!  My only issue is that I’m unsure how that ruffle is going to make my butt look.  Hm.

4

Another Yellow one, but I adore the detail of the black belt and the contrast between the two different patterns and colors.

3

I think this one might be my favorite.  I know, it’s strapless.  I don’t care.  I sort of prefer strapless because i’m so damn short.  I feel like not having my shoulders exposed and a dress that’s at my knee or just past makes me look stubby.

Thoughts?  Amazing places for really great dresses on the interwebs that won’t cost me my first born as payment?

We’re having a photographer from Operation Love come to homecoming, which i’m really excited about.  The last thing that I wanted to worry about was pictures, so they are going to take care of that for me which is AMAZING.   Beware when you click on that link though, the galleries had me all sorts of ugly crying.  It’s really beautiful though.

I seriously love Anthropologie. I’ve been trying to get out of retail but I’m seriously considering a job there so I can get a fat discount on their clothes. I like the first dress the best :)

that 3rd dress is all kinds of fabulous :)

also – i’m totes in for the 5k. The ones around me i have events (weddings…out of town) but put me on the agenda (tentatively) for the philly race – i’ve never been and have been dying to run a race in Philly (am considering the philly marathon if i don’t get into NYC) and i might add adam to that also because he’s itching to run a 5k :)

I like the 2nd dress. I’m not a big fan of strapless despite wearing it for my wedding reception, but I just think it’s such an extraordinary color. :)

And I’m also looking for a homecoming dress, but haven’t found one. I tried one on at Goodwill and it fit like a glove, but the style just wasn’t me.

Oh my gosh that first one is ADORABLE! Is that in stores right now? I might need it. :)

Don’t let those b*tches get to you. You’re lovely and wonderful.

Love all the dresses; choosing will be hard, I’m sure!

I’m def going to see if there’s a 5k near me (St. Louis would be great) for MMRF!!!

And you certainly don’t have to defend your actions and decisions to anyone. Some people who get all uppity like that are just… ugh.

Hope you can get some much needed rest (and emails) from your man soon!

That first dress = amazing. And I am totally going to fo the race in DC. It’s perfect. One of my new year’s resolutions was to run a 5K and since I can’t start training til May, I figure November 14th should be a good deadline. Plus, we couldn’t ask for a better cause.

Ooookay dress one?! GORGEOUS.

1/3 of the way there is excellent, love. You’ve been incredibly strong. No doubt in my mind you’ll make it through the rest, and I’m always here if you feel like you could use a little pick-me-up. xoxo

I really like the first one! The second one is pretty too though. And I think the third one would be perfect for Jamaica!

I don’t know if you have a Dillard’s by you (we don’t in Chicago), but when my parent’s lived in SC there was one there and they ALWAYS had cute dresses. Check them out online! http://www.dillards.com Or there’s always BCBG.

I really love the first one. That back is so unique! They are all cute though. Have you ever been on Ruelala.com? You have to visit it often, and they don’t always have inexpensive stuff on there, but sometimes you can find a great deal! I also love outlet shopping for good deals if there are any around you, hit them up!

Um, you don’t know how stupid excited I was to see that link to Operation Love. I HAD NO IDEA it existed, but I want to be a part of it. I took some photos at a friend of mine’s homecoming. Being so involved with those in the Navy and living near TWO naval bases, I must join.

Oh, and the dresses are really pretty too. I vote for the third one. :)

Oh, I’m with “accidentally graceful” on ModCloth.com – seriously, such lovely dresses! Don’t know how you’re built up top, but i’m small-ish and all of the dresses I’ve gotten there fit well. Bigger-busted girls might have trouble with the slim-fitting ones. Just a tip.

But otherwise, I vote dress #2! I love any combo of yellow and black that doesn’t look bumblebee-ish, and that dress WORKS.

Like anthropologie they also have a lot of cute dresses with that classic/vintage inspired vibe, but at a slightly lower price point.

Love the 2nd dress, but all of them are beautiful!! :)

Sorry to hear about your internet drama, I didn’t get to read the original post but I’m sure nothing was worth the backlash you received.

Yay to being 1/3 through the deployment! I just passed the 1/2 way mark which seemed like it would never come. While I don’t think the time every “flies by” I do believe that getting used to the separation helps a bit. This too shall pass :)

But I think you need to hop down to the nearest store and try them on and take pictures for us so we can help you choose. :)

Why do people continue to suck? I missed the post you’re taking about, but I can imagine the drama that ensued.

I vote for the first dress. LOVE that back!
I have to say, even though I took a side and contributed to the comment war, I was a bit relieved to see you took down the post. It reminded me a bit of the days when the evil Air Force wives I knew would start drama on Myspace. Some people are just drama and I’m glad to see you purge yourself of it. Please don’t shut out all AF wives though. Some of us can be extremely loyal, caring, and supportive friends when given the chance. :)

I almost bought that first dress myself. That would have been silly since I don’t actually have any reason to wear it aside from the fact that it looks so pretty. However… the reviews of it weren’t great. Some reviewers said it fit funny and made them look boxy. I couldn’t find it in my local stores, so I can’t say first-hand. Try it on!

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can be judgmental of others lives they share on the Internet. I mean, you’re putting it out there, but that is no reason to light someone up like that. If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. I like to stick to that one.

And those dresses are ridiculously cute! AH! I want to go shopping now!

I just read the Post in Question as it was still in my reader (very sneaky, Google!) – and, um, yeah. Not to rehash but I did want to mention that, um, WHAT. One of the gals I work with did exactly the same thing you did. And you know what? Nobody thought it was wrong, or “deceitful” or any of the other things she said. From what I can tell, it is fairly common practice, and I think maybe she’s bitter that she never had one. I mean – sure, the whole point is a marriage. But if he is deployed, it’s not like you’re really getting to BE married right now, anyway. As in the case of my friend, the marriage kind of starts when he gets back. Thus? A later wedding if FINE. Also, yes, from what I can tell, there are a lot of reasons you would need/want to get married before he was deployed – hooray for bureaucracy. I’ve also NEVER heard that military wives are bratty or entitled. If anything, I consider them to be some of the strongest women I know, and I don’t know HOW they do it.

That said, I like Dress #1 the best. :)

I’m not one for white – maybe ’cause I look horrible in it thanks to my super-pale skin – but I do love the yellow one in the middle. All are great choices though.

1/3 of the way through… Wow. It’s flying on this end, I’d say, but I’m sure it’s torture for you. Keep your head up though. You are doing great hun.
